Thinking about VBScript.btw i was ready to help you too. shortly after i moved to nyc and got settled in i was going to come up to montreal for a visit, but somehow right at that moment you and a bunch of other familiar people were meeting privately with someone from google. i had seen that movie before too in many instances of the tech industry.
i see the long journey you took from that, i think we might have gotten there quickly.
did you write the software in identi.ca?

Thinking about VBScript.i was very impressed with pointcast.
that CNN on the Desktop piece ran in Wired.
and they quoted it everywhere.
it was a breakthrough. probably not the most elegant implementation, but wow what an idea.

I wonder what @davew thinks about "Really Simple Licensing". -
@evan @thisismissemI published a screen shot of your post on my blog.

Like I said in the post, everything else is baloney. Put that at the top of every spec you write, so people know not to drift into bullshit-land.

@evan @thisismissemI have the answer to that good question.

That’s the collection of feeds that reps my web writing.

@evan @thisismissemi use automattic's bridge to activitypub, so i don't have to worry about the innards.
but i like the way the web works better.
that's what i'm going to stick with.
-
@evan @thisismissemTHAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.
to get rid of the difference so we really can write in our home and have it go where ever we want.
everyone wants this.
we have pingbacks in RSS and they work, and wordpress supports them.
it's the obvious way to go.
masto and bluesky have to hook up to our network, not vice versa.

Re the brouhaha with activitypub and atproto.i had some comments here i deleted.
things are changing really fast at least from my point of view.
we'll catch up in october at least.

@evan @thisismissemalso saw a post from paul frazee about a year ago saying they thought about using HTTP and RSS but decided instead to reinvent the whole stack.
the process is so obvious. start with really good RSS support in and out and then start adding features after living with it for a year or so.
we could stop talking about interop and start using it.
i don't think any of you really want interop. you could have it very very very quickly.
-
Re the brouhaha with activitypub and atproto. This is where I saw it --
Apparently the statement there was taken down and put somewhere else.
Seems there was a conference about it, and then an extensive discussion.
-
Re the brouhaha with activitypub and atproto.Re the brouhaha with activitypub and atproto.
They should fully embrace inbound and outbound RSS and be done with it.
In the end if they want to interop, that’s how it’ll happen.
However I don’t think either of them wants interop.
I’ve seen this movie before.

You know how there’s a rule that in order to be a podcast it has to have an RSS feed…"The Rule of Links is that you link when it's appropriate to do so. Linking is an art. It's a choice. You don't link from every word or even every noun, or from the subject of every sentence."

What would be the equivalent statement about the web?
How can you tell of a document or app is “on the web?”
This is something I’d like to work out with people who understand, support and protect the web.
