I have installed GoToSocial via a server which runs with Yunohost (https://yunohost.org/), it's very easy to install this fedi platform there. I would advice to read through the documentation on a Yunohost installation and then compare running mastodon or gotosocial (https://gotosocial.org/).
It's mostly an adventure, as you can read in the blog posts by @elena : https://news.elenarossini.com/tag/the-future-is-federated/
