If water didn’t exist, we wouldn’t have pottery—not just because water can help #clay formation in nature or because we use water to mold clay, but because we simply needed a way to transport liquid. The development of pottery meant that people could live further away from a water source. In this piece, the connection between #pottery and water has become symbolic of life-giving, cleansing, ritual use, refreshment, fluidity and healing. Access to clean water shouldn’t be taken for granted.

A local guy who found me on Mastodon just came by to pick up his ollas. We chatted about growing food in this challenging climate, the tragedy of Space X littering our skies with garbage and I sent him off with some papayas from our yard. We live in Florida, albeit in somewhat of a blue bubble, so connecting with likeminded ppl feels more significant than when I lived in more liberal places. I just wanted to express gratitude for this space and for the potential it offers. 2/2

I’ve always known that I want my pottery to live in homes that reflect values similar to my own. I once had a bunch of ppl sign up for my newsletter after a “Southern Living” feature and watched many of those ppl unsubscribe after my emails mentioning BLM, immigration, houselessness, reproductive rights and other “political”issues. That is just fine with me. All of this to say, I’m very happy to have found an audience and community here. 1/2

One of my mentees just called to tell me that she was nervous about turning down an interview with Fox News that was coordinated by a gallery she is showing at right now. It is her first group show and her first media opportunity. Her piece was very personal (about abortion) and she had concerns about sharing her story with right-wing media for many reasons so she declined. 1/2
