I’m not sure if #Apertus can be counted as #FreeSoftware or #OpenSource. It’s under Apache License. Code and training data are in the open. Sounds good, right?

But there’s a catch: Before you get it, you must agree to an “acceptable use policy” which puts conditions on your usage. I see this as a violation of the freedom to use the software for any purpose, that would be both against the Free Software and Open Source Definition.

#Russia basically just introduced #thoughtcrime. It is now illegal in Russia to even just do an #Internet search for "extremist content". The list of "extremist content" (according to Russia) is LONG. It includes #LGBT-related things, for example.

The only extremism here is the obsession of the state to control EVERYTHING.
