Two years ago, I started browsing with #javascript turned off by default, only enabling it (and saving this decision) when needed. With the browsers I am using, it's only 2 clicks.

A lot of insights I got from this experiment:

- most websites are still usable, minus all the annoyances
- websites that refuse to display content at all w/o JS turn out to be not worth visiting. So you have kind of a quality filter.
- browsing is many times faster
- you use the internet much more focused on the content you were actually looking for. No more distractive images, links, embedded content
- enabling JS on sites that automatically redirect you if your #browser misses JS support can be tricky

A useful combination of options for the #netstat command on #linux is "-n -p -u -t -l -e": show all listening udp and tcp sockets, include program PID and extra information, do not translate numbers.

If you speak german, these options are easy to remember in this order: `netstat -tulpen` -- what means "tulips" . A single tulip, `netstat -tulpe` turns on number resolution.

#FreeBSD equivalent is `sockstat -l -Ptcp,udp`

@stefano I'm frustrated because a solution to this problem exists for decades - its name is #PGP. Also it has it's disadvantages, problems and is of course not bullet proof, I wonder why nobody was able to design a GUI that is usable for most users with a few hours of training. You only need to understand 5 % of PGP to be able to use it.

I think convenience and lack of interest (until it's too late) are the main obstacles.

If you want to see authentic computer #art, install #xscreensaver and click through all plugins. Be aware of the dates, some of them were designed in the 80s. In some of them, one can feel the advent of cyberpunk.

Forget about all the #ai generated #crap, where it is impossible to see the soul of the designer.
