When twitter helped spawn the Arab Spring, it didn't have algos. What the users boosted, went viral. That's it. The experience on the platform was great back then.
I don't understand how the rich, powerful assholes got everybody to think we needed their bots making these decisions for us, but I completely get why they wanted to convince us of that.
