What do other UK folks use as an online source of reliable, non-tabloid, edited/collated "mainstream" (as in, not just tech, or sport etc.) national and international news?

I am a bit fed up of the BBC (in terms of both coverage and its website), but I lack a better alternative.

I used to like the FT, and some of the Guardian's reporting.

Tell me what you use, please?

@neil on the website front, using RSS was a bit of a revelation to help me parse headlines and negate UI nonsense; pop ups and prompts to login, etc. Of course, clicking through and *reading* something will expose me to those, but at least I’ve found an article of interest already!
For content, a mix of BBC; Grauniad; Politico, Mediapart (they have a small EN segment), France24 plus tech and websites of orgs I have an interest in.

As @Edent mentions though, I’ve concluded that most news reporting is garbage and not worth my time. Whether it’s tech, energy, infra or economics, all the mainstream houses are institutionally incompetent. Rehashed press releases or shallow reporting from journos who clearly don’t know the subject area and/or are terrified to ask tougher questions for fear of losing access.

@richh @neil @Edent You could give https://www.newsnow.co.uk/ a try. It aggregates news, but humans curate the sources. It promotes stories that multiple publications carry, which should help filter out the noise. And it has a headline only view, which, for me, is easier to scan and causes less stress.

        Disclaimer: used to work there

@neil if alexa counts as o"online", i get my headlines from the Flash briefing, which now mostly means the economist, and the bbc 2 min briefing
