I've long wanted one of those crude but durable quilted moving blankets for use in the #workshop.

I figure it would be great on a workbench when you're working on a delicate thing, or something with a finish to protect. Also good as padding for a new thing you're assembling. A variety of other uses probably?

I typically use some clean, fresh cardboard for that now, which is okay - can be a bit slippery.

I have a bit of canvas too, but it's not padded unless folded a lot.

Searching a bit, I see the economy end of that market is made up of non-woven quilted blankets whose fabric looks a bit like landscape fabric, or that stuff on the underside your couch/sofa/chesterfield.

That might be okay. A key metric is the weight, and I see that often quoted as lbs/dz or pounds per dozen on the big evil site. They range from 20 to 60 lbs/dz.

So a good heavy weight would seem to be about 2kg each, which sounds nice for my purpose.

If I were to splurge for a perfect product it would be quilted canvas w recycled cotton fibre inside perhaps. I see a few like that, but I'm not sure I'd want to pay top dollar for a fancy one that will get light usage.

A first application will be for my thrift-store guitar repair use. That'll give me a sense of whether the low/mid end product is decent or not.

Thanks for tuning in to my thinking-out-loud session.

Got something like that in your #workshop or #craft area? Impressions?

Further to my ponderings yesterday, I got a couple of utility/moving blankets for the workshop. They're roughly 1m x 2m (40" x 72") in size and were shipped with crazy unnecessary overnight delivery.

Anyway they look fine for my intended purpose. They are getting a cat scan as I type this.
