I think it's more productive to think "Gee, look at all the words empire-building colonialists have made problematic" than "Gee, look at all the words we can't use anymore so we don't offend people."@croyle Oh yeah, for sure! That's why I think reframing it has value. I don't necessarily think mis-labeling, or mis-speaking is "proof" that someone is problematic, but if you're trying to be better, it helps to change the way you look at things.

I think it's more productive to think "Gee, look at all the words empire-building colonialists have made problematic" than "Gee, look at all the words we can't use anymore so we don't offend people."Why yes, I am sharing an office with a straight white conservative male in his late 50s.

I think it's more productive to think "Gee, look at all the words empire-building colonialists have made problematic" than "Gee, look at all the words we can't use anymore so we don't offend people."Maybe if we hadn't been such absolute dickheads, you could still use words and NOT have them be correlated with racism, classism or sexism....

As someone who worked a block away from the World Trade Center on 9/11, and saw the first plane fly overhead as I was getting to the subway to go to work, I have a complex relationship with violence against the state by non-military actors. As someone who worked a block away from the World Trade Center on 9/11, and saw the first plane fly overhead as I was getting to the subway to go to work, I have a complex relationship with violence against the state by non-military actors.
24 years later, for many it has lost the bite.
I don't unilaterally oppose non-military violent action, but I think we ALL need to focus on what it does to communities. Pain is sometimes necessary, but you have to know the cost you are making people pay.

REMEMBER: No one action "starts" an armed conflict, or escalates an existing situation to the next level, but the side in power will always point to a single event perpetrated by the 'other' side.REMEMBER: No one action "starts" an armed conflict, or escalates an existing situation to the next level, but the side in power will always point to a single event perpetrated by the 'other' side.
After the conflict, the winner will reassign blame again.

Hey, "thoughts and prayers" for Charlie Kirk."I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe." -Charlie Kirk

Hey, "thoughts and prayers" for Charlie Kirk. Can't say I'll cry if he doesn't make it....play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I'm glad people are starting to wake up.

Only 9 Air Canada flight attendants out of 1,000 approved of the contract that ended the strike…that’s not greed talking, that’s a system-wide acknowledgement they are being screwed.Only 9 Air Canada flight attendants out of 1,000 approved of the contract that ended the strike…that’s not greed talking, that’s a system-wide acknowledgement they are being screwed.

I started on a brief gig on a tv show this month, and I have to say, I LOVE MY JOB.I can't say the show, or what I'm doing, but, honestly - it's not an "oooh wow!" show...but the WORK is interesting, and the team is good, and that matters more than if you're making spaceships for the MCU or apartments for a rom-com.

The cool thing about this project too is that it's 90% stuff I'm comfortable with, and 10% stuff I've never done before...so I get to stretch, but I don't feel super anxious.

In regards to AI in our various fields, and people talking about how it isn't good enough. In regards to AI in our various fields, and people talking about how it isn't good enough. I'm very much in the camp of "I don't give a damn if it *can* be done, it should *NOT* be done."
Doesn't matter if it's cheaper...for MANY jobs, it's cheaper to hire child labour, we have made the correct decision that doing so is harmful to the kind of world we want to live in. We don't have to only make decisions based on ROI.

Folks, I had forgotten how nice it feels to have a boss telling you that you’re doing good work, as you are in the middle of doing that work.Every once in a while, it can feel really good to be creative in the service of something that isn’t yours.

Like, I ‘know’ I’m good at what I do, but you don’t get that boost when you are your own boss.
