Loudly shouting at Microsoft to stop forcing "AI" on Github users might lead to some sort of success.I am still following the same method I used when I decided 30 years ago to move from Windows to Linux. I ask simple questions. Do I own my "stuff"? Or do I trust someone else? It's a simple question but often a complex answer. I can and do use proprietary services for convenience β as long as I can always pack up my "stuff" and move elsewhere. I moved from local directories to CVS. From local CVS to SourceForge. From SourceForge to GitHub. And now my own Forgejo. And in a few years - who knows?

I took stock, understood what is really happening, that you are accepting to be locked in to a walled garden that you do not control.
So I silently packed up my stuff a while ago and moved to a place and community that accepts, respects and defends my freedom. My repos have moved to #codeberg, I am running my own #forgejo instance and build runners.

Introducing #devBnB.^^ Which logo looks nicer?
-
Introducing #devBnB.Some feedback received and I agree. The contrast between green and orange isn't the best. For people with colour vision impairment (especially red/green) it might be almost unreadable. So here's a variation with buttery yellow instead. which do you prefer? (vote in next reply)

Introducing #devBnB.Addendum: And that's my current proposal for the logo. It's in the assets/SVG folder of the repo, also assets/PNG for bitmap versions. Steampunky, friendly, old-school and in the colours every farmer recognises

Introducing #devBnB.https://www.devbnb.eu
https://www.devbnb.orgThe domains are connected. They have their letsencrypt certificates. A very simple static landing page is made. I think I have deserved a morning coffee now
After that I will configure the mail stuff and write some more content on the concept. Please add your ideas too! I mirror the site code at https://codeberg.org/jwildeboer/devbnb where you can open issues to share your thoughts!

Introducing #devBnB.Ah, why not. devBnB.eu and .org booked. Someone squatted the .com domain years ago, but I donβt care yet. Will put up a landing page tomorrow and whoever wants to (help) build it, letβs go

Introducing #devBnB.Farmers and small villages can offer their opportunities, with requirements and a nice place to work in, a place to sleep with bird and nature sounds. Accompanied by some backend peers that help build the big(ger) picture. Wouldnβt that be a nice thing?

Introducing #devBnB.Introducing #devBnB. Where city developers can βbookβ coding opportunities to go to a farm or small village project in need of open source/hardware expertise to build farm solutions, federated power grids, rural traffic solutions, reverse-engineer proprietary shit. Escape from the city. Build open source code. Feel nature. Experience small communities. Itβs what you want. Admit it
A weird idea, but who knows, sounds like a fun project! Wanna join?

I hate to break it to you all, but modern farming means to work a LOT with computers.I hate to break it to you all, but modern farming means to work a LOT with computers. At home for the "paper"work which is mostly digital, on the field with proprietary systems in tractors and other machines needed. Not even mentioning the IT work involved in herding cattle or chicken. You cannot run a modern farm without being an IT person. And yes, that's also true for ecological farming.
Now if we all would join agriculture to create open source and open standards β¦ and open seeds β¦

Sometimes you have to call something out, loud and clear, for what it is.Sometimes you have to call something out, loud and clear, for what it is. When Trump sends his officials to compile a list of βobjectionableβ art in museums β that approach has a name and a history. Degenerate Art, or βentartete Kunstβ as we call it in Germany. And yes, itβs a thing the Nazis did. And yes, this is absolutely comparable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degenerate_art

I think that if you have paid for a domain name at least 10 years in a row, the renting phase should be over and it should become yours forever without having to pay a yearly fee any longer.I think that if you have paid for a domain name at least 10 years in a row, the renting phase should be over and it should become yours forever without having to pay a yearly fee any longer. Wait are you telling me that on Hetzner you can start and stop servers at will and you only get charged for usage?@elena I just hope you don't also catch the "I really need this domain name" virus. I still think that all of my 25 domains will someday change the world for the better!

Me right now: studying the ins and outs of #Docker, ports exposure, firewalls and #TLS.@elena If you need someone to sanity check your VPS setup before deploying, feel free to ask me. I have VPSes with containers on OVH and netcup that are happily humming along and resisting attacks since years
