I think the only #Fediverse apps that could comply with age verification laws (as they have the tools available) are #Threads & #WordPress (I believe commercial plugins are available for the latter).

Age verification tech is best handled by experienced third-party apps (for security reasons), but #Mississippi does not understand the risk & cost factors for complying with their law.

@evan That is an option, but many folks in the #Fediverse might be wary of relying on #Google or #Meta.
It will not be long before an Age Verification company that makes plugins for #WordPress will create a premium workaround for #Mastodon sites.

@darnell I think the other option is running small instances where the operator has a relationship with each of the users. For example, a company instance, a university instance, or a household instance.
