Would it be possible to build something that looked like #ATproto to #bluesky but also like #ActivityPub? I think there's something to learn from podcatchers also. We need something like a VC model for nonprofit reference projects.

Do you mean you want something like the Bluesky/ AT-Protocol 'relay' to exist for the Fediverse/ ActivityPub?
The Fediverse does have 'relays'. Although people tend to use them a little differently here.
But, I have (previously) talked about using Fediverse 'relays' for other use-cases. For example:

it's all always bouncing around in my head.
I've been trying to think through what's most valuable from the different approaches and then I thought it's so much harder to try out such ideas cause we lack the ability to fully play out ideas without the VC money.
I think mastodon wtc is great in that it's fully featured unlike a PDS, but it locks you into a content type moreso. a moveable blob and smart clients would be best but hard for newbies. ugh.
