@stefan if I was AOL back in the day, I would have loved there to be a competitor to HTTP. I would have kept the people building on it well funded for years.

@mat @thisismissem @mondoweiss @j12t Facebook and OG Twitter seem similar but I think they are at least used very differently and it explains their MAU. The first is about communities while the latter was about public discourse. I wish we'd use social networking vs social media to distinguish them.I'm a civics and "popular culture should be democratically determined, not bought" guy so I wish more wanted to use spaces like we did OG Twitter, but they don't. YETshould all be on AP tho imo.

@reiver it's all always bouncing around in my head.I've been trying to think through what's most valuable from the different approaches and then I thought it's so much harder to try out such ideas cause we lack the ability to fully play out ideas without the VC money.I think mastodon wtc is great in that it's fully featured unlike a PDS, but it locks you into a content type moreso. a moveable blob and smart clients would be best but hard for newbies. ugh.
