I find myself using GtS more and more... far more frequently than Mastodon, as I love its longer character limit (you set it... I put it at 5000 characters vs Mastodon's 500). @dominic I LOVE my GoToSocial account!

For the record, I only had federation issues twice in 9+ months.

The first time was the day after a massively popular post (1200+ boosts). I had to restart my GoToSocial because it had stopped federating.

And the second time it happened it was after another post went viral… but I only experienced 10 minutes federation delays the day after. All normal now.

Under regular / typical use there are absolutely no issues

Jag uppgraderade till ett något dyrare abonnemang för PeerTube eftersom video är så resurskrävande.

Beroende på dina behov kan en grundläggande VPS räcka. Förresten, för nio månader sedan visste jag bokstavligen INGENTING om självhosting. YunoHost är det bästa alternativet och ger dig möjlighet att göra så mycket.

@irgndsondepp yes there are no native clients but wonderful options like masto-fe, elk.zone and Phanpy (I cycle between the three)

GoToSocial only serves Public statuses via the web.

I have to say, I have 3 federated Wordpress sites and never had to use a button like that… basically when you follow a blog on the Fediverse and reply to it from here, the comments sync seamlessly…

@daj oh I can see the usage that my deleted servers racked up... it's all in the dashboard. So yes, I will be charged for them at the end of the month, but used them so little that the expense is negligible

@jwildeboer oh I've had that bug for a while and went up to 15 domain names... thankfully I'm in recovery and scaling back now. I think I went "down" to 10-12 (need to check, LOL)

Wait are you telling me that on Hetzner you can start and stop servers at will and you only get charged for usage?

Since finding out about this yesterday I deleted the first VPS and created a brand new one with Docker pre-installed. Changed SSH ports, bulked up security, turned on the firewall... and if I'm adventurous enough I may attempt to install Ghost this afternoon ​

I had to pre-pay 20 Euros to verify my identity on Hetzner and my usage so far has been 1.36€.

Send help this #selfhosting stuff is addictive ​

@arosano aw thank you! for now she respects the rules we set and sticks to them...

one of my proudest little achievements is teaching her that Barbie dolls have impossible bodies that do not reflect reality... so she plays with different (more realistic, non-sexualized) dolls instead and rejects Barbies altogether.

hoping that I can have a positive impact on her tech use in the future.

her cousin got a Furby last Christmas and now my little one wants "a talking robot" - I told her I'll get her one that is more intelligent, so that she doesn't have to bend to the Furby rules and speak in a way that Furby understands. I find it creepy and non-educational TBH. Now researching robot making projects for my Raspberry Pi 5 ​
