@ikuturso Yeah, neither one is perfect.
The first site has an open issue on GitHub to include other parts of the ATProto stack, hopefully that will be added soon.

@mastodonmigration Apologies for butting in, but I think https://atp.fyi/network does a better job at showing how decentralized Bluesky/ATProto really is, compared to this site you shared, which, as it explains, only takes PDSs into account.
I certainly have my own opinions and feelings about the whole "fediverse vs Bluesky" thing, but this joint statement is a good reminder that fighting on the internet is never a good look.
"We do not win by tearing each other down, which only emboldens and empowers those who do not want either protocol to succeed."
@ricmac I think that would be fair!
Anyway, let me see if I can build some consensus!
@ricmac Ah, no worries, definitely appreciate you calling this out!
I guess there's always the option of coopting this date?
@ricmac Hmm, #IndieBlogDay doesn't seem to be a thing yet.

I do like the idea of tying it with Blaugust, maybe August 1st would be a good date? (A bit late for this year, though.)
@ricmac Ah, totally missed that connection, thank you!
Bummer. Seemed like a perfect way to cap off Blaugust. https://aggronaut.com/2023/07/12/blaugust-2023-is-coming/
With the #WorldBlogDay coming up on Sunday, I updated my World Blog Day post from last year.
"A funny thing happens with history in that the most mundane, ubiquitous parts of daily life are the things that we've kind of lost the most because nobody wrote about them."
"The first two-network TCP/IP transmission was between the [Packet Radio Van] and ARPANET on August 27, 1976; the van was parked next to Rossotti's (since 1956, officially the "Alpine Inn"), a well-known Portola Valley, California biker bar, and wires were run to one of the picnic tables."

@wjmaggos I'm not too sure about this Mississippi law, but I believe the UK one applied to services that have users located in the UK, hence geoblocking being utilized. If nobody from the UK can access your service, then you don't need to check their ID.
@wjmaggos To be fair, people have already been able to host all the different parts of the Bluesky infrastructure themselves, but putting that aside, this response from Mastodon's CEO seems to suggest what I said earlier, that fediverse admins just assume that they can fly under the radar, regardless of how big or how well federated their community is.
I'm a bit confused about some of the discourse around Bluesky having to comply with Mississippi laws.
Does it really matter to what degree they're "truly" decentralized?
Forums and fediverse servers have shut down/geo-blocked people in UK in response to UK's Online Safety Act.

I figured it's mostly fediverse servers being too small that helps them avoid having to comply. Anyone talking about how this affects mastodon.social?
